If you’re a pilot, plan to be a pilot, or just like airplanes, then join the AOPA or renew today. The AOPA promotes aviation and protects flying privileges.
The United States government is planning to regulate small airports the same as those that serve scheduled airliners, including pilot and passenger scrutiny and onerous inspections, with a program called the Large Airport Security Program (LASP).
If LASP passes, the freedom that GA pilots have historically had in the USA will be a memory, as it already is in Europe.
What can you do?
- Join AOPA or renew your membership. Membership starts at $35/year. There is also a lifetime membership for $2,500, with $2,000 tax-deductible, by calling (800) 872-2672.
- Donate via Credit Card to the AOPA Foundation (tax-deductible)
- Donate to the AOPA Political Action Committee (PAC) – Individuals up to $5,000/year each. Not tax-deductible, contribution becomes a public elections record over $200.
- And write your congressman.
(I am a lifetime AOPA member and 2009 PAC contributor.)

The more people we can get interested in flying, aviation and aircraft the better. We should be pushing for more young people to get involved – like in the Air Cadet Organisation in the UK. Also try the tour plans at http://www.britishtourplans.com
