Mac OS X runs fine on an iMac 350/320 MB!

I was curious how well OS X ran on older Mac platforms. Today I bought a lime iMac G3 350 MHz/320 MB running 10.2.8 from a local thrift shop for $100. I found it to be pretty zippy, except when opening the OS 9 compatibility environment, which takes about one minute to initialize. (I have to admit this … Vicki, you told me so.) Why bother buying this relatively obsolete machine? For software QA purposes, and hey, maybe as a terminal in the kitchen.

Small world … ran into my SOX accounting consultant buddy while there. She says there’s still a lot of jobs for SOX consultants in the Bay Area.

Update 2005-06-15: Apple QA manager said they still test on iMac 233/256 and that is a “supported platform.” If it won’t install, then it’s not a “supported platform.”
